The advocate team is a group of people with developmental disabilities who want to increase awareness about the lives of people with disabilities, and their experiences within the community.

They call themselves the P.O.W.E.R. group.

P.O.W.E.R People’s Own Words Equal Rights

P.O.W.E.R. believes that every person is valuable and has the right to a life of inclusion.

Our mission:

to be a resource, provide awareness, information, education, support and understanding for people who have developmental disabilities and the community.

The team advocates for rights, equality, and freedoms for people with developmental disabilities through speaking to classes, workplaces, Chamber of Commerce, community organizations and service clubs.

Aiming to educate about social issues, members of the advocate have created videos based on the successes and challenges in their lives, along with informational videos on topics such as bullying and human rights.

They are leaders and role models that speak for themselves and teach and/or attend courses on advocacy, leadership, motivational speaking, decision-making and informed consent.

P.O.W.E.R.is available to speak to your class, workplace, Chamber of Commerce or other organization. If you would like to book a speaking engagement or would like further information on what a self advocate / developmental disability is please email the team at power@communitylivingoc.ca
