Foundations Services for Young Adults

The goal of this service is to meet the needs of people who have a developmental disability and are between the ages of 18 to 30, living in the Oshawa/Clarington area and not receiving other services. It supports adults as they transition into community life. Participants plan and work on identified goals and develop time-lines to achieve these goals.

Plans for the participants include gaining knowledge of how to access community services, participate in the community, and work on building confidence and self respect.

For some, community activities include utilizing local services that include transportation, shopping, educational, recreation facilities, volunteer work, employment services. Daily living skills such as cooking, street and personal safety awareness, money management and social development are organized in 1:1 or group sessions to help build independence. All of these allow people to have the opportunity to meet up with old friends and to make new ones.
